About James
James Thornton has spent over a decade working in clinical nutrition and health communication. After qualifying as a Registered Associate Nutritionist through the Association for Nutrition, he worked within NHS primary care teams across Greater London, providing one-to-one dietary counselling for patients referred through the NHS Health Check programme.
James Thornton is a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) with extensive experience in both clinical practice and health education. He completed his MSc in Clinical Nutrition at King's College London, where his dissertation explored the accuracy and limitations of BMI as a screening tool compared with bio-electrical impedance analysis in UK adults over 50.
After graduating, James joined an NHS community dietetics team in South London, where he delivered weight management programmes aligned with NICE clinical guidelines. Over five years, he worked with hundreds of patients — from those newly diagnosed with prediabetes to individuals preparing for bariatric surgery — gaining deep insight into the practical realities of weight management in the UK.
In 2019, James transitioned into health writing and digital health consultancy. He has since authored content for several UK-based health platforms, translating complex nutritional science into clear, actionable guidance. His writing is informed by the latest SACN (Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition) reports and Public Health England data.
James is a firm believer that good health information should be free, accessible, and free of commercial bias. He lives in Cambridge with his family and is an enthusiastic amateur cyclist.
